About the College
Singbhum College, Chandil, was established on 17.01.1973. The college is recognised since 1973 under the Section 2(f) and 18(B) of UGCAct, 1956. It was converted into a constituent unit of Ranchi University, Ranchi, on 24.11.1980. At present, the college is a constituent unit of Kolhan University, Chaibasa, a state University created on 13.09.2009 after the trifurcation of the Ranchi University. It is conveniently located approximately 15 miles north of Jamshedpur at Chandil, at the intersection of NH 33 and NH 32. The 18-acre campus for co-education, set in the rolling hills of Dalma, has an enrolment of more than 4000 students. The college has been a significant centre for higher education and intellectual development of the students and researchers of the Ichagarh Assembly constituency of Jharkhand.
The college serves with Undergraduate and Post Graduate Programmmes across the three major faculties of Science, Arts and Commerce under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) pattern. All the 16 departments offer the UG Honours and General Programmes. The PG Programmes are available in Hindi, Political Science and Commerce. Enhancing the mission of the college, the well-stocked Library with Inflibnet, Wi-Fi Campus, updated Science Laboratories, ramp for differently abled students and common halls for boys and girls encourage and support enrolled studentsfor learning and research. For more 50 years, the college has provided enriching and life-changing educational opportunities for rural and tribal communities of Chandil and adjoining areas. The college also offers a range of prospects for students to enhance their college experience outside the classroom through student activities, leadership opportunities, and sports. The NCC and NSS wings are also functioning successfully. There are two units of Adivasi Student Hostel.
With the pedagogy that keeps in pace with technology, Singhbhum College is committed to transformstudents’ lives, develop human potential, create an informed citizenry, and serve as the academic and professionalcommunity. A warm greeting from the Principal of Singhbhum College! I am privileged to be a part of this college’s mission to educate, inspire and prepare each student for a life of service and success. At the onset, let me apprise our students and community that the college makes every reasonable effort to ensure their health and safety in this times of covid-19 pandemic in accordance with the orders from the state of Jharkhand and Kolhan University.
This college is a symbol of progressive and quality education. Our students have been scaling to new heights with excellent and reputed learning and research activities. We, as a team of dedicated teachers and non-teaching staff, are committed to the multifaceted welfare of our students and community. We always do our utmost to educate our students with a pedagogy that equips them to face the challenges that future holds.
In the approaching years, we focus on the blended learning programmes, skill based education, capacity building of the teachers and students and the non-teaching staff and also on strengthening the information technology environment of the college. The spirit of our college resonates will all its staff and students. I am sure through collaborative efforts, we can achieve more to benefit our students and researchers who are leaders of tomorrows.
